Malthus was right. There is not enough planet to sustain the growing human population, particularly given our species' profligate use of land and resources.
According to the Global Footprint Network, a sustainable population for our planet is between 1.5 and 3 billion people, but we are estimated to reach 9.7 billion by 2050.
In this Edinburgh Science Festival event a panel of experts look at the challenges and ethics surrounding the thorny issue of over-population.
The panel includes:
- Robin Maynard, Director of Population Matters
- Karin Kuhlemann, human rights researcher
- Dr Alan Marshall, population ethicist
