Founded in 1946, the Institut français d’Ecosse is the Scottish outpost of the French Embassy in the United Kingdom.
As well as being a language centre with about 1,500 students per year, its 70-seat theatre hosts a variety of French-themed cultural events including exhibitions, lectures and talks, concerts, French film nights, quiz nights, and fittingly French conversation evenings. It also houses a resource centre and online e-library Culturethèque.
Each August, the French Institute, is a participating venue in Edinburgh's Festivals.
