A favourite event of the winter season, the Scottish Ensemble’s annual concert by candlelight comes to the beautiful surroundings of Greyfriars Kirk, giving Edinburgh audiences the chance to begin the Christmas season with an atmospheric kaleidoscope of procession, dance and contemplation.
This year, the concert features music from composers from the Baltic nations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, including Fratres by Classic FM Composer of the Year 2011 Arvo Pärt. Collectively, the work of these composers crosses geographical boundaries to resonate with people globally. Alternating with these highly distinctive works are pieces from William Byrd and Henry Purcell.
