LAFTAS announce Joker of the Year awards:The English Football team among the winners

LOADED LAFTAS ANNOUNCE ‘JOKER OF THE YEAR’

The England Football Team have been awarded the title ‘Jokers of the Year’ by the Loaded LAFTAs Awards.

Hailing from the country that invented the beautiful game, Fabio Capello’s joke of a team dominated the headlines this year, not only with their dismal World Cup performance but also for their embarrassing off-field escapades. Including such classics as:

“Nice to hear your own fans booing you. That’s loyal support.” Wayne Rooney thanks England fans for travelling 5,500 miles to watch them after England draw 0-0 with Algeria.

“I hate England and the f**king people.” Ashley Cole endears himself to the English public yet further, just before the World Cup starts.

John Terry’s genius decision to hold a press conference behind Capello’s back and set his own agenda half way through the most important tournament in years.

“I say thank you very much for helping me at the World Cup, but probably he is a little bit old.” Don Fabio decides to brief the globe on live TV before letting Becks know he’ll never play for him again.

We’d also like to thank the monumentally unhelpful:
Capello Index...John Terry (again), Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney’s extramarital affairs... Robert Green’s fingers...and England’s overall terrible play.

Loaded Editor Andy Sherwood explains: “The ability to laugh at ourselves is perhaps one of our nation’s most endearing qualities, so there’s no better way to salute England's football flops than presenting them with the ‘Jokers of the Year’ award.”

The England Team inherit the ‘Joker’ crown from Alex Reid, who was awarded the title for making a career out of his outlandish alter-ego Roxanne and being the hunky lap-dog of a certain glamour model.

Comedy fans can continue to cast a vote for their favourite by logging onto loaded.co.uk.
Voting will close on Monday 31st January.

Comedian and Radio DJ Greg Burns is to host the awards this year, with the glittering lunchtime ceremony taking place at London’s exclusive venue, The Cuckoo Club on Tuesday 1st February. 2011 will celebrate the LAFTAS eighth event.

The Loaded LAFTAS are the only awards to be voted for entirely by the British public. Voting is open at www.loaded.co.uk/laftas.

In partnership with Jongleurs, the Loaded LAFTAS launched ‘Search for a Star’, an X-Factor style competition seeking out comedy’s next ‘Rising Star’ through a series of cross-country heats. The winner of the competition will attend the Loaded LAFTAS on 1st February, where they will be presented with the ‘Rising Star’ award, and enjoy the company of comedy greats such as Alan Carr and Vic Reeves for the day.

In addition to the ‘Rising Star’ award, the lucky comedy star will also receive a £500 cash prize and a laptop, as well as appearing in the next edition of the legendary computer game The Sims, with the creation of their very own stand-up comic ‘Sim’.
