The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of the reigning monarch, stands at the end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. It is steps from the Scottish Parliament and sits at the edge of Holyrood Park.
Holyroodhouse was founded as a monastery in 1128 and was at one point the residence of Mary Queen of Scots.
You can visit the Royal Apartments when the King is not in residence, and visit the Queen's Gallery which hosts changing exhibitions from the Royal Collection.
