Edinburgh-set Hallam Foe won the top award, the Hitchcock d'Or, at the 18th Festival du Film Britannique in Brittany this weekend. Director of Photography Giles Nuttgens won the Prix Kodak for Best Cinematography. Director David Mackenzie and producer Gillian Berrie were there to accept the awards.
Hallam Foe was adapted by Mackenzie from a novel by former flat mate Peter Jinks. It tells the story of a teenage voyeur played by Billy Elliott star Jamie Bell who starts an oddball love affair with his hotel boss, played by Sophia Myles, by spying on her from Edinburgh rooftops.
The film was shot extensively in and around Edinburgh as well as using a specially built set of the inside of the Balmoral clock tower where Hallam Foe does his spying.
Hallam Foe had its UK premiere when it opened the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August. Mackenzie also opened the 2003 EIFF with his first major feature film, the working class period thriller set on the Union Canal Young Adam.
