Edinburgh to Hold "Most religiously Diverse Meeting in Scotland"

A conference including 30 of Edinburgh’s religious leaders and faith community representatives takes place on Thursday 25th November at the City Chambers.

Representatives of all the major faiths and their denominations present in Edinburgh have been invited and are attending - Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Bahai, Brahma Kumaris, Buddhism, Hindu, Pagan, Sikh, Quaker and Unitarian.

This meeting is held annually during Inter-Faith week in Edinburgh. The 2010 meeting promises to be the most diverse inter-religious meeting ever held in Scotland.

The discussions on the agenda cover a range of issues including the Scottish Government’s Equalities Update, City Council’s Budget Review especially those affecting the elderly, a statement on Lothian and Borders Community Safety and Diversity, and Spiritual Care in NHS Lothian.

Scottish Government Minister Fergus Ewing MSP expects to attend and address Edinburgh’s faith leaders.

The group has been invited to move on discussions with Edinburgh City Council on developing a range of ‘well-being indicators’ in the city that sit alongside the established economic indicators.
