The City of Edinburgh Council is one of four councils that will take part in a study looking at the "on the ground" impacts of climate change to improve the city's readiness for extreme weather.
The council will combine media reports and individual experiences to create a picture of the effects of climate change in the community. The trial study is being run in tandem with Highland, South Lanarkshire and Perth and Kinross councils, led by the government-funded Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership.
Councillor Robert Aldridge, who chairs Edinburgh City Council's cross party working group on climate change said, "We are very pleased to have been selected for this project and to be working with partner organisations to see if it can help other local authorities. However, this is only one element of the work we are doing which aims to create a carbon-neutral Edinburgh by 2050."
The Scottish government has a national target of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050.
