Mp3 thread

I'm starting an Mp3 thread... a place to share new discoveries or learn of new releases.

Quinn have gotten a lot of good local press (and a top 10 hit in Serbia) over the last few years. The Glasgow-based band, fronted by dreamy vocalist Louise Quinn, has a kind of old school technopop mashed up with all sorts of instruments - from tabla rhythms to Eno-esque guitar rips. They just released some tracks with (christmas) bells on them on their MySpace site. I think my favourite one is on their home page - The World Is Upside Down (not a christmas song). Download free via MySpace (www.myspace.com/abandcalledquinn ) / Last Fm (www.last.fm/music/A+Band+Called+Quinn ) and the band's website www.abandcalledquinn.com. The video for the track will be avaliable on YouTube ( www.youtube.com/abandcalledquinn ).

Steiner educated Sadie Jemmet spent many of her formative years in Edinburgh - she now lives in London. She's a singer-songwriter in the Joni Mitchell mould with a voice that has an effervescent soulfulness about it.

She's just released some free mp3s here:

She's great just singing to her acoustic guitar, but I also like The Blacksmiths Girl, a catchy, uptempo number.

and here's a great live cover of the Buzzcocks "Ever Fallen in Love...?":

Listening to Honey In the Sun mp3 right now by Glasgwegian band Camera Obscura. Kind of happy, shiny, reverby, uptempo number with lead singer Tracyanne Campbell singing with an airy trans-Atlantic accent.

Their New Album 'My Maudlin Career' came out in April.
