Winning Chef off to Chateaux

Winner of the Scottish Food Scholarship 2008 to visit Villeroy & Boch family Chateau in Luxembourg

The winner of this year’s Scottish Food Scholarship, Jamie Wakeford of Cameron House Hotel in Loch Lomond, is set to take off for Luxembourg tomorrow, Tuesday 15th April, for a two day journey of discovery at the invitation of renowned ceramic manufacturer Villeroy and Boch.

Jamie will be given the opportunity to be educated in the traditions of one of the great names in the catering trade. This valuable learning experience will enhance the many opportunities, including cooking with Antony Worrall Thompson at C4’s Taste of Edinburgh, that he will enjoy throughout his year as Scotland’s food scholar.

This once is a lifetime trip will begin with a tour of Villeroy and Boch’s ‘discovery centre’ where Jamie will uncover a thousand years of cultural history and centuries of ceramic tradition. Jamie will dine at some of the finest restaurants in Luxembourg and Germany, including Villeroy and Boch’s own Schloss Saareck in Mettlach, Germany and will stay at Villeroy & Boch's Chateau Septfontaines in Luxembourg. Jamie will take in the sights of Luxembourg including a tour and wine tasting at Bernard Massard winery.

Joining Jamie on the trip will be the Craft Guild of Chefs Graduate Award winners Mark Froydenlund and Steven Wilson, as well as Nick Green, Business Development Manager of Villeroy and Boch’s UK division.

Nick commented:

“At V&B we support all areas of the hospitality industry, particularly young chefs. The trip to Luxembourg gives these youngsters a chance to see a world beyond their current work experiences. For many of them this will be their first professional trip abroad and will broaden their culinary horizons.”

Inaugurated in 2006, the Scottish Food Scholarship is a national competition open to talented young chefs in Scotland and is organised by Martin Wishart, Braehead Foods Ltd and Crimson Edge PR.
