City Juice Bar Announced as Partners in 2008 Sports Programme

Popular smoothie bar Juiced Up have been named as the official partners of the Edinburgh city council Activcity Sports Programme 2008/09, launching today at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh.

With over 68 events listed in the activity calendar, the official launch will see schoolchildren from across the city navigate through four disciplines – climbing, mountain biking, orienteering and potted sports – in the Activcity Adventure Race. In the afternoon, corporate teams from Hibernian Football Club, Edinburgh Rugby, Forth One, Event Scotland and Edinburgh Leisure will compete in the corporate adventure race before Gavin Hastings and Councillor Steven Cardownie officially launch the 2008/09 programme.

Jonathan Oag, owner of Juiced Up commented; “We are delighted to be named as partners in this venture and whole heartedly support the ethos of the whole project. As a healthy living bar, our smoothies and juices are perfect for athletes and those partaking in sporting activities -  not only does the fresh fruit replenish natural vitamins and minerals, but they are quick and convenient.”

Juiced Up will be on site supporting the launch in their capacity as partners, offering a range of smoothies to participants and supporters. Juiced Up bars operate across the capital and serve 100% natural fruit juice drinks and freshly prepared smoothies to help cleanse the body through natural means.

Formerly Futuresport, the Activcity Programme is part of the council’s mission to make Edinburgh the most physically active city in Europe by 2020.

The official launch will be taking place in Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh on Wednesday 23rd April.

Editors Notes

·          Formerly the Futuresport Programme, the decision was taken to rebrand the programme of events to emphasis the importance of physical activity and staying active. Working closely with Active Schools, Edinburgh Leisure and local groups the calendar of events will also be promoted through the Councils partnership with ClubSportEdinburgh.

·          Juiced Up first launched in Edinburgh two years ago following the world wide travels of owner Jonathan Oag. The entrepreneurial businessman was so impressed by the healthy juice bars and their obvious popularity that, recognising a niche market yet untapped in Scotland, Oag launched Juiced Up on Bruntsfield Place in 2006. Now operating two stand alone outlets, a terminal in the Ocean Terminal shopping centre and also marketing to the bar trade, the Juiced Up phenomenon has found a solid market in the Capital.  www.juiced-up.co.uk
