Here's a bulletin from Leith Folk Club with next month's listings...

Mike Whellans (£6)
Tuesday 4th November

The award-winning one man blues band delivers a blues feast with good humour and mischief.
'...one of Scotland's heroes, a bluesman of amazing ability...a totally brilliant one man band.'
Mike Harding, preview of Whellan's new album 'Fired-Up & Ready', BBC Folk & Acoustic Website 15th Sep 2008

Michael Marra (£8)
Tuesday 11th November

Musician, playwright, poet, actor, and most of all, writer of some of the most wonderful songs ever heard, Michael Marra, a national treasure, is coming back to see us in Leith, and we can hardly wait.

John Goldie and Angus Lyon (£6)
Tuesday 18th November

John Goldie is without doubt a world class acoustic guitarist, incorporating a wide range of influences including jazz, blues, Celtic and funk. The press quote ‘One man acid jazz band' goes a little way to describe this remarkable musicians ability to combine bass, chords, melody and groove together with apparent ease. Angus Lyon has been playing the accordion since he was 5 years old. Competing at NAO events around the country, he went on to become a British champion by the time he was 13. He released his solo album ‘Long Road' in 2000 then recorded the fabulous Simple Tricks album with fiddle player Ruaridh Campbell. In addition to his own projects Angus has worked as a session musician - playing on over 30 albums, and has recorded and performed with some of the biggest names in music including Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Paul McCartney, Rick Nowels (Producer for Madonna, Jewel, New Radicals) Maartin Allcock, Craig David, Nick Bicât, Dr Fred Freeman & John Wright.

Ailie Robertson (£6)
(CHANGE FROM PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED)
Tuesday 25th November

Forget misty images of lovelorn maidens at lattice windows and enter a world where the harp drives percussive reels and dance grooves, and relaxed precision weaves clever variations of traditional pipe tunes. Winner of five Gold Medals at the Mod, Ailie is already taking her place at the very forefront of the new generation of celtic harp players.
