Full Edinburgh Picture House World Music Programme
Spring 2009 Announced

We are delighted to announce that Ojos de Brujo will be
returning to the capital for one of only 3 UK dates to promote their new album
"AOCANÁ".  The Barcelona
band previously played in Edinburgh
to a packed Usher Hall in 2007 and at the Radio 3 Award for World Music
Concert.  Ojos de Brujo complete the line-up for the Edinburgh Picture House
Spring Season of World Music concerts.

Opening the season are African superstars Amadou &
Mariam whose 2008 album ‘Welcome to Mali', featuring collaborations
with Blur's Daman Albarn and rapper K'naan, was universally hailed
as one of the top albums of last year.

Buena Vista Social Club star, Eliades Ochoa, also returns to
Edinburgh but
this time with his own band.  The guitarist, affectionately known as the
Cuban Johnny Cash because of his trademark black cowboy hat, was one of the
five key Buena Vista Social Club members along with Ruben Gonzales, Ibrahim
Ferrer, Omara Portuondo and Compay Segundo.

Orchestra Baobab are one of Africa's great iconic
bands and creators of one of the world's most sublime and distinctive pop
sounds, merging Afro-cuban rhythms, Portuguese Creole melody, rumba, high life and
a whole gamut of Senegalese styles.

Folk rock experimentalists Tunng and desert blues phenomenon
Tinariwen combine for what will be one of the most intriguing collaborations of
the year and The Sharon Shannon Big Band make a timely visit to Edinburgh to take part in Ceilidh
Culture with special guest, The Pogues front man and living legend Shane
MacGowan.

A special celebration of Balkan music closes the season with
Edinburgh's
own Orkestra del Sol and Balkanarama DJs confirmed to join the Bulgarian Ivo
Papasov Wedding Band on 5th May.
