Departure Lounge is back at the beautiful Caves in the heart of
Edinburgh for another global-ho-down, featuring one of our favourite
DJs and top chap Nostalgia 77, who appears alongside Scottish
troubadours Das Contras, making their DL debut. Let’s hear it for the
jazzers
Ben Lamdin AKA Nostalgia 77 first arrived
in our headphones in 2002 with a melting pot of hip-hop, heavy funk,
dusty jazz and afro-soul. In April 2007 he made his debut appearance at
Departure Lounge where he rocked the joint with a very healthy set
brimming with chunky soul music, funk breaks and Latin flavours. Ben’s
three studio LPs for Tru Thoughts Records have garnered him a worldwide
fanbase and critical acclaim across the board. Ben is currently working
on projects involving legendary vocalist Julie Tippet (nee Driscoll)
and former DL guest vocalist Lizzy Parks. A very rare appearance north
of the border.

Das Contras, our live band for the evening, are perfectly poised to
warm the place up. They’ve been on the list to play for a while now the
time has come. Having supported the likes of Ozomatli, Terry Callier
and Marlena Shaw, these guys know how to work a room – here is what The
Skinny Magazine says:
“Das Contras … make danceable, catchy jazz borrowing heavily from
ska and reggae. They manage it with gusto. Occasional Latin rhythms,
the odd free form breakdown and a little piano weirdness mixed with
probably the most impeccable musicianship The Loft has ever seen. ”
