10th & 11th April - Trouble with Horace Andy, Ashley Beedle, Found, Joe Acheson Quartet, Trouble DJs

Yup, we're upping sticks and moving on, after more than four years at the award-winning Cabaret Voltaire. Considering that Erik d’Viking was part of the Freak Music team which launched the original Cabaret Voltaire in 2003 (two years before it was taken over by current lease-holder Sarah David), this is an especially poignant moment. During this period we've worked with top drawer DJs and live acts as diverse as Dixon, Kathy Diamond, Lucky Me, Rob Da Bank, The Unabombers, X VECTORS, Neil Landstrumm, Quarion (UK debut), Gilles Peterson, Crazy P, Young Fathers and Alice Russell, plus MCs Ratty B, Profisee and Kwasi at the club, either via the flagship Trouble nights or spin-off, mid-week party the Glenfiddich Independent Mix (2005-2006), not to mention the likes of Ty, Ross Allen, Patife, Fernanda Porto, Patrica Marx and Michael Reinboth at previous spin-off nights Missing, Say Samba! and Get Together (2003-2004).

It's our seventh birthday, though, and you can expect a damn fine blow-out to celebrate, not least as this event will also form part of a triptych of parties for the first ever TROUBLE EASTER WEEKENDER!

Trouble's always been about giving people a great night with real value for money first and foremost, so ticket-holders for the Horace Andy & Ashley Beedle show at the Voodoo Rooms will gain entry to Cabaret Voltaire on Friday and also the Fish Fry on Saturday absolutely FREE of charge! BARGAIN!!

JOE ACHESON QUARTET

We've been putting Joe and his band on since they first started out as a trio. They supported the mighty Jaga Jazzist (Ninja Tune) at our first ever Glenfiddich Independent Mix night in March 2005. Expect an exclusive dance set from the band as they focus on their heavier, more upbeat material for the Trouble birthday, with the critically acclaimed Maja Borg joining Ivan Torres Hdez on VJ duties and Su-A Lee (SCO/McFall's) appearing as guest cellist.

'We couldn't possibly do justice to their enveloping acoustic/digital live performance in here. Quite like nothing else on the Edinburgh scene or elsewhere, they really must be sampled to be believed.' (The List)

We jumped at the chance to work with Horace Andy, THE voice of Massive Attack's classic 1991 debut album, Blue Lines, and a Jamaican/reggae LEGEND in his own right. DJ/producer Ashley Beedle is most famous for his work with the Ivor Novello winning X-Press 2 but we've also loved his more leftfield Nineties dance productions under the Black Science Orchestra and Ballistic Brothers monikers and these days he's a busy remix artist, producer and DJ, who will be recognised immediately by regulars at Edinburgh's awesome Ultragroove house night.

FOUND (LIVE)
FRESH BACK FROM SXSW FESTIVAL IN AUSTEN, TEXAS

Similarly we’ve been working with Found since they played an early Edinburgh gig for Trouble's GIM night at Cab in 2005. Since then they've expanded to a quintet and are now one of the most successful and critically acclaimed Edinburgh bands on the Scottish circuit and have - for some time now - been adding international live dates to a diary that's already brimming with shows up and down the UK. The mighty Found play the Fish Fry following their away-gig in Austin, Texas at industry hoe-down South By South West, in March, so this will effectively be their homecoming gig.

'Edinburgh’s Found both look and sound more and more like a band ready for proper success.' (The Scotsman)
