Spotted - signs of humour in Edinburgh

Stop. Yield. Give Way. The Signspotting Project is coming to Edinburgh.
Curated by world traveller Doug Lansky, 100 of the world's funniest signs
are to be recreated in Edinburgh's city centre from 1 - 31 August as part
of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Snapped by people from all over the
world signs such as 'Entering Ethel' outside the town of Ethel in
Washington USA, the openly honest 'Barf Bed & Breakfast' in the Lake
District and the tourist friendly 'Take Luggage of Foreigner - No Charge'
in Hanoi Vietnam are just a few examples of how a good laugh can be the
best reward for a weary traveller. The rooftop and interior of Princes
Mall in Edinburgh will play host to this exhibition for the month of
August giving festival goers a chance to chuckle at the signs of the
times.

A seasoned traveller; Doug found that despite breathtaking images of
waterfalls, lush jungle and remote landscapes, the pictures from his
travels that got the most attention were of unintentionally humorous
signs. The mix of unbelievable graphics, hilarious translations and even
oversights in English speaking countries led Doug to collate snaps from
other travellers to create the Lonely Planet's best selling books
Signspotting and Signspotting 2. The Signspotting Project brings a
collection of these side-splitting signs to life in an exhibition that has
already tickled over 1 million visitors in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Doug is delighted to be bringing the exhibition to the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe saying; "As a Mecca for comedy fans, festival fanatics and fun
seeking travellers, Edinburgh is an obvious destination for The
Signspotting Project. The universal appeal of the exhibition will have
people of all ages seeing the funny side of signage from around the
world."

Doug Lansky is a freelance travel writer who has written for National
Geographic Adventure, Esquire and The Guardian. He has written numerous
travel books including Lonely Planet's Signspotting and Signspotting 2 and
has been collecting pictures of bizarre signs for 17 years with a library
of 40,000 images. To date, he has been on the road for ten years in over
100 countries, and been living abroad for an additional six years.
