World Press Photo 2009 Exhibition Opens at Holyrood

WORLD PRESS PHOTO EXHIBITION OPENS AT HOLYROOD

The Scottish Parliament will unveil one of the world's largest and most prestigious photographic exhibitions on Thursday 6 August 2009.

Returning to Holyrood for the fourth year, the World Press Photo exhibition once again features stunning images documenting people, places and events from across the world.

Erik de Kruijf, World Press Photo Project Manager Exhibitions, will give a tour of the exhibition's photographs, discussing the jury's choices and the qualities of the winning photographs. Erik will also be available for media interviews.

Included in the showcase this year is overall winning p black-and-white image by American photographer Anthony Suau. The picture shows an armed officer of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department moving through a home in Cleveland, Ohio, following eviction as a result of mortgage foreclosure. Officers have to ensure that the house is clear of weapons, and that the residents have moved out.

Media organisations are invited to send reporters, photographers and TV cameras to a preview and breakfast hosted by Deputy Presiding Officer Trish Godman at the Scottish Parliament at 10:00am on Thursday 6 August.

A programme of photography themed events and discussions are also taking place between 17 - 25 August alongside the Festival of Politics.

The World Press Photo Exhibition is part of the Scottish Parliament's Festival of Politics. This is the fourth year running Holyrood has shown the World Press Photo Exhibition.
