Family Festive Fun at the Scottish Storytelling Centre

Festive Family Fun at the Scottish Storytelling Centre!

This December the Scottish Storytelling Centre has a programme full of affordable events for families that are rich with the magic of Christmas, guaranteed to excite and inspire.

Come in from the cold.

Families can escape the chilly air and busy shops at the Scottish Storytelling Centre throughout December with many events all focusing on festival themes but offering a variety of opportunities for all ages.

Storylab: Angelic Tales

Saturday 12th December combines storytelling, art and craft with an afternoon event that guarantees fun for all the family. Join storyteller Bea Ferguson as she takes inspiration from the Centre’s Christmas exhibition and explores all things winged. Come and hear stories of unusual angels, find out where they come from and create magical paper angels to decorate the Storytelling Court or to bring home.

Story Space: Snowflakes

Making the most of the Centre's vibrant and airy Storytelling Court, host storyteller and musician Margaret Smith shares festive tales through energetic and playful characterisation on Thursday 17th December. Using games, movement, music and song, discover and create exciting stories together in an event that gives toddlers the perfect way to experience modern tale-making, with delightful little adventures for little people.

Round the Tree

Gather Round the Tree on Saturday 19th December and Wednesday 23rd December for seasonal stories, songs and wonderful, live puppet nativity under the foot of the Centre’s traditional Christmas tree. The Court hosts guest storyteller Heather Henderson with Donald Smith providing an enchanting animal nativity on the 19th. Lea Taylor presents merry musings along with puppet nativity on the 23rd.  There will also be two Round the Tree sessions on Christmas Eve – an enchanting way to set the scene for Christmas with storyteller Fiona Herbert, followed by puppet nativity.

This event is guaranteed to grab the attention of any four to eight year old who likes to be entertained and all their family!

The Daft Days

The Scottish Storytelling Centre is offering families an alternative to slouching about in pyjamas in front of the telly, with humourous tales for the traditional “daft days” between Christmas and New Year. Families can come along to the Centre’s intimate auditorium for one of the Daft Days between Monday 28th and Wednesday 30th December to hear holiday stories of jokers, fools, amusement, misrule, wise men and revelry. Robert Howat, Debra Weller and James Spence provide the tantalising tales and Jack Martin treats all to some silly and mischievous puppeteering.

Stories make a great gift for everyone!
