2010 highlights at Dundee Contemporary Arts

DCA is pleased to announce an eclectic programme of world-class visual art, film, literature, music, design and craft over the coming year.

The sixth edition of Kill Your Timid Notion festival returns to DCA from Sunday 21 – Sunday 28 February, after a triumphant 2008 UK tour of groundbreaking film, sound and performance. Taking KYTN’s unique blend of openness and artistic exploration to a new level, the festival is extended this year to include a week-long ‘Investigations’ programme of events that you can get involved in.

Following his recent Glenfiddich residency, Glasgow artist Alex Frost presents his biggest solo show to date, from 13 th March -23 rd May. The Connoisseurs presents a mixture of different techniques from mosaic and sculpture to blind drawing , in an awkward marriage of inspirations; digital technology, food science, community craft workshops and dystopian fiction.

Chicks on Speed bring their punk-inspired DIY ethic to Dundee from 5 June - 8 August.  The group’s first major solo show in the UK interrogates the boundaries of art, craft, fashion and music. DCA galleries will be transformed into a live laboratory, studio, performance space and installation as Don’t Art, Fashion, Music merges traditional techniques with new research in technical innovation. Collaborative projects with local and international artists and makers will unfold over the weeks, including the production of a guitar stiletto.

Discovery Film Festival – Scotland’s international film festival for young audiences – the largest film event for 3-21 year olds in the country, returns from Saturday 16–Sunday 31 October. As well as the best films, stories and characters from around the world, plus workshops, and special guests, this year’s event will also take over the galleries with a specially-curated exhibition.

Highlights later in the year include selected new works by Mary Redmond and Sara MacKillop in a two person exhibition from 21 August until 10 October. Acclaimed New York artist Jonathan Horowitz blends irony, politics and humour in November.
