Living with Loss

Lady Evelyn:Tales from Highland Perthshire

In 1891 a daughter of the Duke of Atholl gathered a rich collection of tales and traditions in the homes of local people. But this was frowned upon, and her work was suppressed. 
Now, after more than a century, her collection can be savoured, and her own story told. Sylvia Roberstson and Tony Dilworth mark this moving and historic publication.

Life Stories: Family Tales

Join father and daughter Noel and Marie Louise Cochrane for an afternoon of family stories and reminiscences to tie in with Mothers’ Day – the laughter, the tears and the skeletons in the closet! Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. The Life Stories group specialise in storytelling and reminiscence for older people. Tall Tales Oscar

Storytellers compete to spin the tallest yarn, with deadpan or surreal conviction - or even terror. Then you, the audience, vote to award the Tall Tales trophy: a leprechaun called Oscar. A fundraiser for work with children and older people, Tall Tales is also at Aye Write in Glasgow (www.ayewrite.com) on Saturday 13th March. Part of Connecting Voices.

Once upon a time Mr Muffin was young and strong. He could carry a whole cucumber on his back! Now he is tired and grey and sits remembering. The warm, heart-rending story of the last days in the life of a beloved guinea pig.

SCOTLAND'S STORIES BY Kate Leiper

From Ossian to Rashiecoats, Finn McCool to Thomas the Rhymer, Kate Leiper interprets and depicts Scotland's great mythic tales. The exhibition includes works commissioned by the Scottish Storytelling Centre and Learning and Teaching Scotland, as well as the 'Auld Cruivie' memorial piece for storytelling legend Stanley Robertson.

Electric Tales: April Fools' Day

An April Fools' Day like no other! Come and be entertained by some of Scotland's best comedians and storytellers as they combine their powers in this electrifying performance. Following on from a successful event in 2009, a new line-up of performers take to the stage at both the Storytelling Centre (1 April) and The Stand (6 April). For those aspiring comedians/storytellers, we will also be running a workshop on 8 May, hosted by The Stand's very own Sian Bevan.

The Weft of the Song, the Warp of the Story

In the oral arts, it is important to 'be present' in the song or story, to attend to its messages and moods. In this participative singing workshop you will work with Ruth Kirkpatrick to uncover the riches beyond the words and tune. Open to anyone with an interest in stories and song.

Baby O

Introduce your baby to a world of sound and song. Enter our secret garden, full of ducks and busy bees, welly boots, water and umbrellas and have fun while our singers create a magical, musical soundscape for you to enjoy together. This interactive opera experience is for 6 to 18 month olds and their parents and carers.

To get the most out of BabyO, we recommend that parents/carers are each responsible for one child at most.
