Big zzzzzz’s
If animals dream, what life do you imagine your pet might dream of? Inspired by the exhibition images, you will use paint and collage techniques to create an image of your own pet or animal and place it in a wonderful Wegman style setting. With artist Stephanie Walker.

Animal Magic
Photographs capture a magical moment in time.  Select your favourite Wegman photograph to inspire you to create a funny short story.  Your story will be brought to life by creating a simple pencil line drawing to be animated in a small flick book - the next part of the story is up to you! With artist Stephanie Walker.

My Pet Portrait
Come along to this lively collage and drawing workshop and create amazing pictures of your favourite pets in unusual situations and costumes inspired by William Wegman's dog photographs.

Catwalk Creations!
Create a stylish paper pooch and a whole fashion collection of paper clothes to dress her/him up in at this special workshop inspired by William Wegman's fantastic photographs. With Artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb

Close-up Collages
Taking inspiration from Edward Weston's beautiful photographs of natural forms such as fruits and vegetables we will create large-scale collage images from still-life arrangements using colourful papers and paints. With Artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb.

Zoom in on Printmaking
Come along and be inspired by Edward Weston's exquisite photographs of still-life objects and create your own images, using simple printmaking techniques. With Artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb.

Sunshine and Shadow - Your Treasured Place
Inspired by Edward Weston’s fabulous photographs of Mexico and California, we will recreate a dramatic picture of your very favourite place - a place that is special and dear to you. We will use an assortment of exciting collage materials. With artist Stephanie Walker.

Fruity Fabric Painting
Imitating Edward Weston’s famous photographs of fruit, vegetables and shells, we will create vibrant fabric paintings inspired by natural forms and succulent tropical fruits. With artist Stephanie Walker.
 
 
Children’s Storytelling Tours
 
Join storyteller, musician and performer Marion Kenny for a bewitching, inspiring and fun walking tour of two of Edinburgh’s art galleries. An exploration of art, stories and music, for children aged 4+

ADULT PROGRAMME
 
Saturday 14 August, 10 am – 4 pm
Focus on Dogs Printmaking Workshop
Inspired by William Wegman's funny and touching dog photographs, try your hand at creating quirky images of your own pets. 
Using simple printmaking techniques we will layer images of dogs, clothing and props to create unique artworks. With Artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb.
 
TALKS AND LECTURES
Monday 23rd August and Monday 30th August, 1.30 pm
David Patterson, Curator, Fine Art Collections, will give an introductory guided tour to the Edward Weston exhibition, highlighting some of the images that secured his reputation as one of America's greatest photographers. Duration 30 minutes.
 
Saturday 18 September, 1.30 pm
Specialist Scottish landscape photographer Lindsay Robertson will discuss the pioneering images of Edward Weston and his working relationship with Ansel Adams.
 
Our family workshops are suitable for all ages and are designed for families working together. All workshops, talks  and lectures are free with the price of an exhibition ticket, but booking is essential.

Come and learn all about the human figure in our exhibition, In Our Own Image. Explore our texture laden Art Cart and experience our amazing activities. Draw yourself in various guises and explore with our eclectic and varied range of art materials. Come along to our drop-in family drawing days in the gallery between 10 am – 12 noon and 1 pm – 3.30 pm
 
Inspired by the varied artworks in the 'In Our Own Image' exhibition, join us for these artist-led drawing sessions exploring new and exciting ways to draw the human figure. Through fun activities and quirky challenges, you will learn about proportion and how to express movement and character in your artwork. With artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb.
