Midmar Allotments Open Day

Since 2006, the public have been invited to explore the enclosed world of Midmar allotments on just one day in August. For about 170 plotholders, this secret garden offers a source of fresh vegetables and fruit, mental and physical exercise, good company and spiritual sustenance through the year. The annual Open Day is a way for the plotholders to share their appreciation and pleasure with a wider audience.

In 2010, the Open Day will be held on Saturday 21st August from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. The allotments are situated next to Blackford Hill. There are two gates which open onto Midmar Drive in Morningside; the gates will be opened at 2 pm. Midmar café within and around our communal cabin will be serving light refreshments.

Visitors can, in return for donations, take away vegetables, jams, preserves and home baking. Visitors are encouraged to explore the plots for themselves and questions are always welcome. All proceeds from the day go towards purchase and repair of tools and improvement of facilities for plotholders.
