After 5 successful years of producing their innovative lunchtime theatre programme, A Play, A Pie and A Pint in Glasgow, Òran Mór is now collaborating with the Traverse Theatre to bring the concept to Edinburgh for the next 5 weeks. The first play is Kyoto by David Greig.
Lucy meets Dan in his hotel room, in an un-named former Communist country, amid passionate promises. This liaison is the culmination of a fantasy that started with a kiss in Kyoto 10 years previously, with the couple meeting bi-annually at environmental conferences held around the world. Their physical passion is thwarted by their cerebral differences and by the frustrations at the inefficiencies of the hotel.
Greig has written environmental metaphors throughout the play with Lucy, the polar scientist, melting into the role of an albeit thwarted, femme fatale. The failed lovers liken themselves to children, but end up making a very adult decision just to take a walk together and enjoy the environment.
The play was well-received by the full house on its first performance in the Traverse.
The ticket price of £10 includes a pie and a pint or glass of wine. Show runs from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 March and starts at 1pm.
