A six story tenement building on the High Street, which has been purchased and renovated by the National Trust of Scotland, to offer a taste of life in 17th century Edinburgh.
This popular tourist attraction, was purchased by a wealthy merchant Thomas Gladstone in 1617, who took in tenants from all walks of life (minister, knight, merchant). The tall building gives an good insight into the cramped conditions of Edinburgh’s Old Town.
In peak season, guides in costume lead a tour of the six display rooms for the full, period experience.
