About the venue

The Gateway Theatre is one of three sites that make up the Queen Margaret University campus and its last remaining foothold in the city of Edinburgh boundary. After converting the building from a television studio run by Scottish Television until 1999, QMU was forced to close the building in May 2005 after a safety inspection revealed defects that would require more than £3 million would need to be spent to make it safe.

The theatre is still the home of QMU drama students and the university still puts on several productions in the Pend studio space each term, as well as making use of other theatres for productions.
