Taste of Edinburgh
Food and drink festival Taste of Edinburgh returns with new ingredients and a new home in Inverleith Park.
Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall of Channel 4's River Cottage fame will kick off the Taste of Edinburgh festival on Friday 29th May. Twelve Edinburgh restaurants will offer an anticipated 25,000 festival visitors taster dishes of Scottish fare over the 3 days. The restaurants are:
- Centotre
- Forth Floor at Harvey Nichols
- Hotel du Vin (new for 2009)
- Malmaison
- number one at The Balmoral
- Ricks (new for 2009)
- Santini
- The Bonham
- The Rutland (new for 2009)
- The Tower
- Tigerlily
- Vincaffe
New for 2009 is a change to the timetable of events. The festival will now offer two sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so visitors can make the most of the summer sunshine throughout the entire weekend.
Features include:
- ScottishPower Taste Theatre with live demonstrations from Michelin starred masters of the kitchen and some familiar local chef talent.
- Taste Kitchen sponsored by Waitrose where top gastronomists demonstrate how to prepare original, exciting dishes using top quality Scottish ingredients.
- French Flair Theatre sponsored by Peugeot; combining classic French style and flair, visitors you can join Chefs in live cooking demonstrations showcasing the techniques and sophistication French Cuisine can offer.
- Scotland's Farmers Market will bring together a range of Scotland's acclaimed producers, all offering homemade, home-grown or home reared food and drink.
- Silvia Dorigo, Taste of Edinburgh Event Director, also promised festival-goers "a recipe that will ensure crowds can yet again
experience Edinburgh's very best culinary character."
Taste of Edinburgh raises the curtain to a series of the nationwide food and drink festivals across three cities in the U.K. - Edinburgh, London and Birmingham.
As well as sampling cooking from the best culinary talent in the country, festival goers will be able to eat and drink from up to 100 speciality food and drink suppliers who will all have stands at the event sampling and selling Scotland's products.
Tickets
Tickets are now on sale and are priced from £12 for standard entry, or a special VIP ticket can be purchased for £40. Tickets can be booked by calling 0871 230 5581 or online.
Taste of Edinburgh background
Taste Festivals is the inspiration of Brand Events and Channel 4, which joined forces in September 2006. In 2007, Taste events were held in Edinburgh, Dublin, London, Bath and Birmingham. In 2008, Taste festivals were held in Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Bath, and Birmingham.
