The inaugural Edinburgh International Magic Festival launched in 2010 with a distinctly comedy magic and Fringe-flavoured line-up.
The 2017 programme is the biggest yet after the Magic Festival partnered with local heritage charities to mark the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017. The festival's popular show ‘The Secret Room’ expands out from Lauriston Castle to new venues Riddle’s Court and The Writers’ Museum, where magicians will take groups of secret-seekers on a magical adventure as they animate the dark past and unsolved mysteries of each with magic.
Other highlights are the gala show at the Festival Theatre and MagicFair.
Popular arts venue Summerhall hosts MagicFair with over 80 live magic shows and 20 illusionists over 3 days. One-ticket-in gives festivalgoers entry to up to seven 20-minute shows, where they will experience live magic in intimate groups of 10 or 120 seat theatres, plus drop-in events and courtyard fun. Whichever sessions visitors choose they get to ride on the MagicFair rollercoaster.
Tickets are available from the Magic Fest web site or Fringe box office.
