The GRV
Formerly known during the Fringe as the Green Room, this popular venue just off the Cowgate (next door to the gap site of the former Gilded Balloon) has had a major overhaul. Gone is the grunge appeal of its previous incarnation which included music nights from Octopus Diamond and Left Bank (who had some memorable live music web casts out of the basement), as it looks to create a more modish vibe that encompasses multimedia arts, live music, film, club nights, and comedy.
Re-opening in its new guise in November 2007, the GRV comprises of a 300 capacity venue and bar on the ground floor, with live performance space downstairs, a soundproofed recording studio and large, naturally lit exhibition gallery on the second floor, and a completely self-contained film studio on the third floor.
Although it's still early days the venue has ambitions to be "much more than a performance space." On its website it says: "The objective was to design a place where art could be created and exhibited. Shows could be performed, filmed, and distributed." The GRV hope that the venue will be a place to network, meet peers and make deals.
Shows are recorded so that audiences can hear live music, and then pick up the DVD of the same show at the end of the night.
The venue is planning to have live comedy every Sunday.
