Region : Edinburgh/Lothian

The National Theatre of Scotland is delighted to be working with Wee
Stories for the first time, taking Wee Stories' unique brand of
story-telling for all the family across Scotland and England, with a
large scale tour of The Emperor's New Kilt, touring from 12 April to 28
June 2008 with a press performance at The King's Theatre, Edinburgh on
Wednesday 16 April at 7.30pm

The vain and tyrannical Laird of Kiltie has one true love, his
kilts. In the lead-up to the most important day in the Kiltie calendar,
his birthday, the Laird wants for one thing, a new kilt ‘the likes of
which has never been seen'. Enter Mr. Harris and Mr. Tweed, two dodgy
weavers, who give this gullible customer exactly what he asks for.

Han Christian Andersen's famous children's fable has been wittily
re-imagined as a family musical comedy, told with Wee Stories'
trademark style of story telling, interwoven with Scottish music hall,
pantomime and ceilidh. In keeping with a show about clothes and
fabrics, the set design features enormous cloth backcloths much of
which is hand-stitched. Different types of fabric create different
textures for the sky, sea, mountains, grass, houses and the laird's
castle. Designer Becky Minto hopes to make minimal use of paint in
creating the set for the production. A short video on the design of the
show can be seen at The Emperor's New Kilt page at
