About the venue

Formerly called Kilderkin, and before that Jenny Ha's, the Parliament Arms is a bar found on the Canongate section of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh's Old Town.

The Parliament Arms opened following a £170,000 refurbishment on Monday 16 March, 2026.

As well as a dining area and function area for to up to 40 people, the bar has three eight-seater whisky snugs, with saloon-style doors to provide a semi-private space for small groups and tastings.

The name of the bar comes from the nearby Scottish Parliament building, with a menu and interior that is of a more traditional, Scottish character.

The bar is operated by Lomond Leisure Group, who also run the Tolbooth Tavern, and is owned by Heineken's Star Pubs.

The new bar carries live comedy and sports events (like World Cup games) on the big screen.

Kilderkin closure

As well as an outdoor seating area, Kilderkin boasted over 100 rums, whisky tasting, live music, and handmade, stone-baked pizzas.

During the Festival, Kilderkin hosted Free Fringe shows with with a 3am opening licence in August.

The business closed on 5 January 2025. The proprietors, Kev and Claire, announced on Facebook:

"Today we packed up the pub, Heineken have found a new tenant to take over the venue on their JAT model. We wish them all the best."
